How to Use Photoshop Overlays

Photoshop overlays are a great way to add visual interest to your images or to give them a particular mood or style. Here are the steps to use Photoshop overlays:
  1. Open your image in Photoshop and create a new layer by clicking on the “New Layer” icon in the Layers panel.
  2. Go to the “File” menu and select “Place Embedded” or “Place Linked,” depending on your preference. This will allow you to add the overlay to your image.
  3. Navigate to the location of the overlay file and select it. The overlay will be added to your document as a new layer.
  4. Resize and position the overlay as desired using the Transform tool (Edit > Transform) and the Move tool (shortcut key: V).
  5. Adjust the opacity of the overlay layer to make it blend with the underlying image. You can do this by moving the opacity slider in the Layers panel or by using the shortcut key “Ctrl + Shift + F” (Windows) or “Command + Shift + F” (Mac) to bring up the “Fade” dialog box.
  6. Apply a layer mask to the overlay layer if you want to remove parts of the overlay. Select the layer mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel, and use a black brush to paint over the areas you want to hide.
  7. Finally, save your image in the desired format.

Remember to experiment with different overlay types, blending modes, and opacities to achieve the desired effect. And always keep a copy of your original image in case you need to go back to it
